Please plan to join us for the CAHRS Fall Partner Meeting “Unpacking the HR Business Partner Role: Current Challenges and Future Directions” on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York starting Wednesday October 23rd with a kick-off reception and meeting to follow on Thursday, October 24th.
The HR Business Partner (HRBP) role is more complex and challenging than ever before. HRBPs interface directly with business leaders and must therefore possess strong business acumen and leadership competencies (e.g., courage, influence). At the same time, they regularly deal with real questions relative to the future of work, for which they must bring to bear their HR expertise and an understanding of trends related to work and the workforce. Over the past several years, HRBPs have had to tackle these myriad responsibilities all while helping their business navigate unprecedented disruption and change.
The purpose of this CAHRS partner meeting is to do a deep dive into the HR Business Partner role to examine how the role has evolved in recent years, where it is likely to go in the future, and the capabilities that will be required to support this transformation. As part of the program, Cornell faculty will share cutting-edge research on different aspects of the HRBP role, and other executives from leading CAHRS partner organizations will share how they have transformed the role and are developing critical HRBP capabilities.
Who Should Attend?
Typical attendees of the CAHRS Fall Partner meetings range from CHRO to mid-career HR professionals. Given the theme of this year’s meeting, mid- to senior-level HRBPs looking to engage in personal development and bring new ideas back to their organization are an ideal fit. However, individuals in more specialist roles that regularly interact with or support HRBPs in their organization are also welcome to attend. Partner companies are invited to send 1-5 participants to the program (sending more is possible depending on available seating) as this is a great opportunity to bring a small team to learn together and discuss implications and how to translate the learnings for your company.

Supporting Line Managers in the Implementation of HR Policies and Initiatives
Line managers play a critical role in the implementation of companies’ HR policies and initiatives. On one hand, they are ideally positioned to do so, given their oversight of operations and close involvement with employees. On the other hand, this delegation often results in a lack of consistency in HR policy implementation across the organization. HR leaders – and HRBPs in particular – can help. In this presentation, Professor Rebecca Kehoe (Professor of HR Studies, Cornell CAHRS) will discuss how HR leaders can support line managers in balancing their HR responsibilities with other demands of their roles, while also facilitating more consistent and effective implementation of HR initiatives.
