CAHRS Virtual Working Group - Navigating The Evolving DEI Landscape

After George Floyd’s murder in 2020, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) initiatives were given renewed focus in companies and organizations. However, as the legal landscape changed with the 2023 Supreme Court decision regarding college admissions affirmative action programs, and with the new government administration implementing Executive Order 14151 to end DEI Programs and Preferencing, along with overt pressure on companies to end DEI measures, organizations are rethinking their approach to DEI in the workplace.

Overview

In this working group, Dr. Tony Byers, Senior Extension Faculty for CAHRS, will review the current landscape, what’s changing and not changing, and facilitate a discussion regarding CAHRS company approaches are to the shifting terrain. Potential areas for discussion include:

·        What are the ramifications of the current executive orders?

·        Is your organization changing its strategy and approach to DEI? If so, how?

·        What steps can organizations take in the current climate?

Given that we limit the number of registrations to our working groups to allow for rich discussion and best practice sharing, we ask that you only register for a session if you will be able to attend for the duration. Prior to the session, attendees should give some thought to topic that will be discussed and come prepared to engage actively in the discussion. We also strongly prefer that participants be on camera during the session to allow for more engaging interaction. If for some reason after you sign up for the working group, something comes up, it would be great to get even a last-minute e-mail advising us that you cannot attend as we sometimes have a waiting list.
