As many organizations are rethinking their approach to the employee experience given the changing nature of work, considerable attention has been directed toward questions related to developing and maintaining a strong organizational culture in an environment characterized by limited face-to-face interaction. A CAHRS working group conducted in December 2021 highlighted challenges that companies continue to face in terms of measuring culture and its impact on business performance as well as identifying both bottom-up and top-down approaches for shaping culture. These challenges are further exacerbated by the expected post-pandemic shift to hybrid work arrangements across many organizations.

In this working group, Professor Chris Collins will lead a discussion on managing organizational culture in a hybrid environment. Some of the questions that will guide the discussion include:

What challenges does the shift to hybrid work arrangements and teams present to managing organizational culture? What strategies have companies used, or are considering using, to address these challenges?

What approaches are companies using to onboard and socialize new remote employees to their organizational culture?

How are companies adjusting their training for managers to help them better manage organizational culture in a hybrid environment?

What methods and measures are companies using to monitor and diagnose the impact of the hybrid environment on their organizational culture?

Prior to the session, attendees should give some thought to the questions included in the description, so they are prepared to share with the group. We also strongly prefer that participants be on camera during the session to allow for more engaging interaction. If for some reason after you sign up for the working group, something comes up last minute (especially while many of us are working from home), it would be great to get even a last minute e-mail advising us that you cannot attend as we sometimes have a waiting list.

Participants who are the best fit for this working group would include Senior HR Business Partners and HR Specialists with responsibilities for supporting and driving organizational culture, employee on-boarding and socialization, managing the employee experience, organizational effectiveness, etc.
