Devin Wiggs is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Labor and Work at Cornell University’s ILR School. His research examines organized labor’s relationship to finance capital. He asks both questions: how can unions wield finance to help workers and how are unions impacted by financialization? Pension funds, strike funds, and other pools of “labor’s capital,” are his principal interest, which he also leverages to theorize the welfare state. As a mixed methodologist, he enjoys working with historical, quantitative, and qualitative data. Devin’s research has been published in outlets such as Economy and Society as well as funded by the National Science Foundation. He completed his PhD in Sociology in 2024 at Northwestern University.
