Scheinman Institute Survey Finds Lack of Diversity in Arbitration Profession
The Scheinman Institute in conjunction with the National Academy of Arbitrators (NAA) has just released a major survey of NAA members looking at issues ranging from demographic diversity to the use of virtual hearings in deciding cases.
At the recent conference of the NAA, held in Denver, Harry C. Katz, Director of the Scheinman Institute and Jack Sheinkman Professor of Collective Bargaining presented the survey’s findings.
Among the research highlights, the membership of the NAA was found to be overwhelming white and male, with a majority of the respondents viewing this lack of diversity as a problem.
The report also examined how technology has transformed the arbitration profession, with over 98 per cent of NAA members having conducted a virtual hearing since the start of the pandemic.
