Nia Winston

Nia Winston is the Secretary-Treasurer of UNITE HERE! International. UNITE HERE! represents hotel, gaming, food service, airport, manufacturing, distribution, and transportation workers. Nia is a driven labor leader with nearly two decades of experience. Prior to becoming the Secretary-Treasurer, Nia was the President of UNITE HERE! Local 24, where she oversaw contract negotiations through collective bargaining and organized labor as it relates to politics, in addition to advancing the economic and job interests of the union membership.

In January 2017, the International Union appointed President Winston to its Black Leadership Steering Committee, which focuses on developing and training Black rank-and-file union leaders. She formerly served as Executive Director and Recording Secretary for UNITE HERE! Local 24. Nia has also served on the Joint Employer Procurement Advisory Board for the City of Detroit, the Mayor’s Workforce Development Committee for the City of Detroit, and the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau Board.

She graduated from Wayne State University's Labor Studies Program and was honored with the Wayne State University Labor Education Rising Star Award in September 2016. In February 2018, the Michigan African American Institute awarded her Labor Leader of the Year.
