Lacy Barnes

Secretary Treasurer, California Federation of Teachers

Lacy has been an instructor and faculty leader since 1994. She is the immediate past president of the State Center Federation of Teachers (SCFT) and the current Secretary-Treasurer of CFT—A Union of Educators and Classified Professionals.

SCFT represents part and full-time faculty at Fresno City College (and the Career Tech Center), Reedley College, Clovis Community College, and Madera Community College (and the Oakhurst Center) collectively, and, the State Center Community College District. In all roles, Lacy spends much of her time warding off attacks to collective bargaining and proactively organizing members to push back against such forces while pushing forward for change.

Lacy earned a Ph.D. in psychology from Claremont Graduate University in 2010 and a Juris Doctor from San Joaquin College of Law in May 2018. She has been inducted into the Halls of Fame by Fresno State Track and Field, Fresno County, and Kern County. Lacy is married to architect and sculptor Marvin Armstrong and has one daughter, Cecilia, who also earned her JD from San Joaquin. She looks forward to spending more time with her husband and daughter playing cribbage, golfing, and learning Spanish once she retires.
