Anne Balay

Anne Balay is the author of two books. Steel Closets (2014), based on oral histories of LGBT steelworkers, and Semi Queer (2018) which tells the stories of queer, trans and black truck drivers. Balay is the Higher Ed Organizer for SEIU Local 1, and she has also worked as a car mechanic, a college professor, and a truck driver. Balay seeks to amplify the voices of queer and trans blue-callar workers, and believes their stories have the potential to reanimate the labor movement.
