Olga Brudastova
Olga Brudastova, President of Local 2110 UAW, became involved in the labor movement as a graduate worker at Columbia University while completing her PhD in Civil Engineering. Together with her colleagues, she organized to overturn the law and allow student workers in private universities across the country unionize. Upon completing her degree in 2018, she joined the staff of Local 2110 UAW to continue organizing new shops, including at the New Museum, BAM, Brooklyn Friends School, and many more. The Local is an amalgamated union, representing nearly 50 workplaces across industries: museums and other cultural institutions, universities and private schools, non-profits and publishers. In the past year, the union had two prolonged strikes—at HarperCollins Publishers and the Hispanic Society of America—both ending with strong collective bargaining agreements and significant wins for the members.
