Steve Peraza

Senior Research & Policy Associate

Steve Peraza earned a Ph.D. in U.S. History from SUNY Buffalo and a BA from St. Lawrence University. His research programs engage with issues such as slavery in the Atlantic World, manumission, poverty, policing, racial justice, and social movements. Dr. Peraza is the co-editor for and a contributor to a book recently published by SUNY Press, More Than Our Pain: Affect and Emotion in the Black Lives Matter Era. Dr. Peraza’s teaching experience includes authoring and delivering classes on African Americans and Civil Rights, Black Protest and Leadership in the 20th Century, the African Diaspora, and Hip Hop and Beyond: A Cultural History, among others. Beyond his scholarship and teaching, Dr. Peraza serves on numerous boards in the Western New York region and holds editorial positions with multiple publications (including the Journal of Afro-Americans in New York Life and History, Weave News, and H-Slavery).
